About Me
If you love your work, you will never work a day in your life.
Hi! I'm Charles Thomas
Over my 40-year career I have worked with and for Architects, Engineers, and Contractors on designing, planning, and building projects. Working with clients and contractors organizing and managing projects. I started my career in the field, building homes and climbing the ranks. After being a superintendent and manager, I opened my own business as a sub-contractor. When the construction market suffered a devastating shift, I made the move to the architectural industry and put my construction experience to designing. From designing custom luxury homes, I worked for Architectural firms on multi-family and commercial projects. Some projects included field assignments involving recording, documenting, drafting and designing equipment improvements with engineers. Project after project I started working with various engineers, building my knowledge and experience in structural, mechanical, electrical and plumbing. Joining a design/build general contractor team with a bridge division, I started designing timber bridges and structures. Growing up around welding and machine shops, I quickly added structural steel, fabrication and metal building erection. I also enjoy helping the next generation of builders and designers.

2D CAD or 3D modeling
2D certainly has its purposes, but 3D is faster, responsive, informative, and clarifying. Changes in 2D affect foundation plan, floor plan, ceiling plan, exterior elevations, interior elevations, building sections, wall sections, and details. 3D model changes automatically update all of them. 3D offers colors, materials and textures. When you select a paint, fabric, tile, or counter you can see your choice in your project quickly so you can approve or change it.

Using BIM
BIM (Building Information Modeling) is where 3D really shows its power. BIM isn’t just a process from design to construction, its tracks choices and requirements from the moment you select it until the moment your living with it.

The Process
Each client has different wants and needs, but the processes are similar. Time and cost are important, but accuracy and detail are required. All projects, big or small encounter the same workflow of creation and revision. I employ steps and stages that help clients make choices and approvals, workflows that save time and reduce costs.

Tailored services & fees
Residential and business clients both want a great design at a good price, but their projects have completely different needs, requirements, and processes. My services and fees are structured so client’s only pay for what they need, but clients can add services as their project evolves. Honest and direct expectations and requirements save clients’ money. Payments are structured to offer clients choices on their projects process.

In person or online
I enjoy meeting clients in person, seeing their expressions and hearing their excitement as they discuss their project. With projects in multiple states without being in person, I have basically been working remotely. Online clients receive continuous emails, documents, images, renderings, phone calls, and video meetings, and site visits if needed. Everyone on the team can stay connected and updated during the process. I am currently in Calhoun, Tennessee, with projects in Tennessee, neighboring states, and across America.
